SENER Aeroespacial MDE (Mechanism Drive Electronics) is a multi-purpose two-axes stepper motor controller, which can operate a wide range of Space mechanisms including APMs, SADAs, etc, where accurate pointing and low-microvibration levels are needed. MDE is compatible with the SENER DTA family of rotary actuators, as well as third party mechanisms.

It is part of SENER Aeroespacial Inter-Satellite and Earth Observation Datalink Subsystems as APME (Antenna Pointing Mechanism Electronics). It has been engineered in accordance with ESA’s ECSS standards, providing unparallel reliability and performance.

  • The MDE comprises two electrically identical units, which are intended to be operated in cold redundancy
  • 2+2 (redundant) interfaces
  • Motor modes of operation: Half-/Full-/up to 256 micro-steps
  • Dimensions:  260 x 260 x 130 mm3
  • Mass: < 5kg
  • Stand-by power consumption: < 8W
  • Different primary power bus options: 28V, 50V
  • Internal Isolated DC/DC converter
  • Motor Drive voltage: up to 33 V
  • Drive current: up to 0.7 A with 12-bit at resolution
  • Up to 10 position switches
  • Potentiometer: coarse/fine option
  • Baseline TM/TC interface: MIL-STD-1553B
  • Optional TM/TC interfaces: CAN, UART (RS422), SpW
  • Flexible configuration via external memory
  • Radiation: cumulative dose typ. 40 kRad (Si), higher values with additional shielding
