Low profile Antenna Pointing Mechanism (APM)

The Cardan mechanism has been designed to point Ka-band antennas and other devices, its low profile design optimizing antenna size and RF properties. The design avoids the need to use hold down and release mechanisms, minimizing the system’s weight and cost while increasing its reliability.
Movement is provided by two rotary actuators from SENER Aeroespacial's DTA product family, based on SUM stepper motors, also designed and manufactured by SENER Aeroespacial.
This electromechanical subsystem may be installed on deployable antenna panels and/or on the top floor of the satellite.
